South Central Mississippi Chapter of the American Red Cross

Youth Services

Since the founding of the Junior Red Cross in 1917, youth and the Red Cross have been partners. Today, involvement of young people with the Red Cross is more important than ever.

Our goal is to provide young people with meaningful opportunities for education, training, and volunteer/community service so that they remain a part of the Red Cross family throughout their lives. Young people up to age 24 make up 30 percent of all Red Cross volunteers!

Below you will find some different ways to get involved with YOUR American Red Cross. We encourage all youth to get involved in our community as we strive to save more lives each day.

Red Cross Youth Leadership Council

The American Red Cross Youth Leadership Council is the decision making body for Youth Services. Members of the Red Cross Youth Leadership Council are responsible for giving direction to the Youth Services Department and helping American Red Cross youth groups and school clubs develop plans of action for a given time period. The primary function of a Youth Leadership Council member is to act as a liason between the South Central Mississippi Chapter and the wider community, specifically with schools in the area.

In addition, the members of the Youth Council participate in service learning opportunities in coalition with other not-for-profit agencies in South Central Mississippi. Youth leadership volunteers will have the opportunity to participate in leadership building weekends, planning and implementing new iniatives in the area and working with the Chapter to build the capacity to offer exciting new volunteer opportunities specifically for youth!

More information about the Youth Leadership council will be posted to this site in next few weeks including how to apply to become a youth leadership volunteer!

American Red Cross Clubs

American Red Cross clubs are an integral part of the American Red Cross. Each year, Red Cross clubs help to raise money to fight against measles, raise awareness in our community about disaster preparedness, deliver vital services during disasters and teach people how to save a life through First Aid and CPR/AED classes!

In addition to being able to raise awareness on behalf of the American Red Cross and providing vital services during times of disaster, American Red Cross Club members have the opportunity to participate in regional youth conferences, develop valuable leadership skills and give back to their communities! For more information on how to get a Red Cross Club started in your school or community, please contact our office by calling 601/582-8151 or email our Youth Services Intern!
